I was based in Liverpool for 12 years and worked for several award winning architects on larger commercial projects ranging from large residential schemes, hotels, carparks, commercial space, restaurants along with listed buildings, conservation areas and many constraints. The above images are a handful of projects I designed and lead as a project architect whilst working at FCH architects.

I moved back to the South West with my family in 2015 and joined Barclay Phillips Architects in a senior architect role. I worked on smaller projects often with greater planning complexity and sensitivity and predominantly in the smaller scale residential development sector. These selected projects range from barn conversions, new high end housing, FA hub and 3G pitch, hotels and residential in listed buildings, and one-off houses. I led the commercial projects from inception to completion and we won a few awards along the way.

Two and a half years on from setting up Birch Architects we feel we have experienced an enormous amount. We expected that the learning curve would be large but the responsibility we feel for clients and creating a space that that they truly love has been enormous. We really relish it when clients and their family enjoy the spaces we have created.

Negotiating the planning process has been a challenge but having a great deal of knowledge about the area and planning law has been invaluable. We became a RIBA chartered practice in 2022 and have diversified into Commercial and Residential projects all over the South-West.

We’re passionate about creating functional architecture that is inspired by people, place and light and we try to work as sustainably as we can, delivering more value for our clients, and less cost for the environment. We’ve found that our small, boutique approach ensures that the vision of the client is fully realised and our expertise helps drive the process and final outcome to the best it can be.
